What is FlapKap ?

FlapKap is a data-driven fintech lender providing short-term working capital to SMEs in the UAE. We underwrite businesses on their financial health and cash flow dynamics rather than traditional collateral-based criteria, using AI-powered credit models built in-house.

We lend across three products:

  • POS Financing — installment facilities for B2C merchants with significant card-based revenue
  • Short Term Loan (STL) — working capital facilities for B2B trading, service and manufacturing SMEs
  • Invoice Discounting (ID) — advances against approved receivables from verified debtors

What will you do ?

This role sits in our Cairo office and underwrites the UAE book. You'll work the same files, the same credit policy and the same committee as the Dubai team — the desk is just in a different city.

Your job is underwriting: take an application, spread the financials, verify what can be verified, form a view on whether this business will repay, and put a defensible recommendation in front of the Investment Committee. You'll do a high volume of it, across all three products, and you'll get good at spotting the patterns that don't show up in any single document.

Job responsibilities:

  • Underwrite POS, STL and Invoice Discounting applications end to end
  • Spread and analyse bank statements, VAT filings, audited financials, management accounts and receivables/payables ageing reports
  • Extract and interpret AECB credit bureau reports, and cross-verify them against bank statements and facility letters — the sources routinely disagree, and working out which one is wrong is most of the job
  • Input verified data into our product-specific credit models and assign risk ratings
  • Verify supporting documentation: trade licenses, Ejari and rent contracts
  • Assess debtor quality on invoice discounting files — payment history, relationship tenure, invoice authenticity
  • Flag enhanced-review triggers: thin bank-verifiable revenue, offshore revenue concentration, single-debtor dependency, minimal apparent value-add
  • Prepare credit memos and present recommendations to Investment Committee
  • Coordinate with the Dubai team on pre-disbursement steps — site visits and in-person verification stay with colleagues on the ground
  • Feed patterns you notice back to the Head of Credit; the policy gets revised on the strength of what underwriters actually see in the files

Requirements

  • 2-4 years underwriting SME or commercial credit at a bank, non-bank lender or fintech
  • Genuine hands-on financial analysis — you've spread statements yourself, not just reviewed someone else's spreads
  • Comfort with bank statement analysis and cash flow assessment as a primary underwriting tool, including businesses where the reported numbers and the bank activity don't match
  • Strong Excel; comfortable working at volume without losing accuracy
  • Clear written English — your credit memos are how decisions get made
  • Willingness to learn UAE credit infrastructure quickly. We don't expect you to arrive knowing AECB, Ejari or the UAE VAT regime; we do expect you to be fluent in them within a couple of months

Nice to have

  • Prior experience underwriting a market you weren't physically based in
  • Exposure to receivables finance or invoice discounting
  • Knowledge of AI tools and LLM models

Working arrangements

You'll be aligned to the UAE working week and business hours to stay in step with the Dubai team, Investment Committee and the commercial desk. Expect daily contact with Dubai colleagues and periodic travel there.
